This Friday, Tom Peters and I will sit down together (yet hundreds of miles apart) and have a Casual Conversation. Time is 2:00 EDT. Not entirely sure what Tom’s got on his mind to chat about, but I’m sure it will be worth your time. Or at least mine.
Here’s the promo from the OPAL site:
Friday, July 11, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. Eastern Time, 1:00 Central, noon Mountain, 11:00 a.m. Pacific, and 7:00 p.m. GMT/UTC/Zulu:
A Casual Conversation with Greg Schwartz
Greg Schwartz is the Library Systems Manager at the Louisville Free Public Library, a blogger at Open Stacks, and the host with the most at Uncontrolled Vocabulary, a live weekly Internet-based audio program. The Casual Conversations series is designed to be up-close and personal from a respectable online distance. While there are many conferences (in-person, online, and in-world) where librarians can hear leaders in the field make formal presentations about interesting projects, there are few opportunities to hear these same leaders discuss informally what they currently are working on, their future plans and goals, the challenges and opportunities facing librarianship, their personal pet peeves, etc.
Host: TAP Information Services
Location: OPAL Online Auditorium

Just wanted to welcome anyone who is stopping by after seeing the link from Mitch Joel’s Six Pixels of Separation blog. Mitch had some interesting things to say about Twitter snobbery after reading the comments in my Stepping Into Marketing post. We’ll likely be talking more about that post and marketing in general on tonight’s episode of Uncontrolled Vocabulary.
Feedback, conversation, greetings, introductions or any other form of engagement welcome. Tell me something good (or bad or otherwise). Thanks to all of you for stopping by.
My good friend from grad school, Rudy Leon, decided she needed a forum for talking about collection development and, not being satisfied with any of the currently available discussions, took matters into her own hands. Her CollectionDevelopment Google group, started just this past Tuesday, already has 182 members, so it would appear the need was there. Go get ‘em, Rudy.
And, um, Rudy, feel free to add me to your blogroll whenever the spirit moves you. I am blogging these days, after all.
Last night, during the taping of episode 35 of Uncontrolled Vocabulary, Michael Sauers discussed his unhappiness with libraries that introduce additional barriers to internet access for non-residents. First-time caller David Rothman encapsulated those thoughts with the terms “media equity” and “library reciprocity.” After the show was finished taping, he implored Michael to write further about it. And Michael has obliged.
Thanks to David for joining the conversation last night and to Michael for keeping it going on his blog.

I’m sorry for the lack of audio content from the conference. I’m home safely and my sore throat has evolved into a full-fledged nastiness. In the meantime, be sure to check out all of the great photos from the conference at Flickr.com. Kudos to all who adopted the cil2005 tag.
Note: According to Flickr support, there is a known bug that prevents the basic search from providing complete results. You will get a slightly larger set of pics using the advanced search.

Just wanted to test out the “Blog This” feature at Flickr. So far, I’ve posted all of my pictures from Alaska, as well as my pictures from Monterey, which includes my pics from Internet Librarian 2004. So check it out, if you’re so inclined.
